The recipe
Steadier — 40 rungs
- 40 buy orders, each 1.1% below the last (down to −44%)
- Each rung = $250,000 ÷ 40 = $6,250
- Sell each at +3% (OTO order)
- Slide the whole grid up when price rises +8%
- Hold through drops · never sell at a loss
Aggressive — 15 rungs
- 15 buy orders, each 1.1% below the last
- Each rung = $250,000 ÷ 15 = $16,667
- Sell each at +3%
- Slide up at +4%
- More return, bigger dips
How the rungs are priced (worked example, center $45.14)
buy = center × (1 − 0.011 × k) ·
sell = buy × 1.03 ·
shares = $6,250 ÷ buy
| rung | buy | sell | % below | shares |
| 1 | $44.64 | $45.98 | −1.1% | 139 |
| 10 | $40.17 | $41.38 | −11% | 155 |
| 20 | $35.21 | $36.27 | −22% | 177 |
| 40 | $25.28 | $26.04 | −44% | 247 |
How to repeat it
- SOXL, $250,000. Today's price is the grid center.
- Place 40 buy limit orders, each 1.1% below the last, down to −44%.
- Size each to $6,250 (full capital ÷ 40).
- Pair every buy to a sell +3% above it (an OTO order at Interactive Brokers).
- When a sell fills, re-place that same buy/sell pair.
- When SOXL rises +8% above the center, slide the whole grid up.
- On drops, hold — never sell at a loss; wait for recovery.
⚠️ Risks — read before trusting these numbers
- Both years were historic booms. Just holding SOXL made +573% (last year) / +283% (YTD) — the grid underperformed buy-and-hold. Its gift is a smaller, calmer drawdown, not beating a boom.
- "Sized for 100%" ≠ always invested. Because SOXL kept climbing, cash sat waiting for dips — average deployment was only ~20–40%.
- Crash-year kryptonite. SOXL fell ~90% in 2022 ($77→$7). A fully-deployed, no-stop-loss grid held through that would take a brutal, long drawdown. These −16 to −25% dips are a good year.
- This is a 5-minute-bar approximation of the live grid, not a tick-perfect replica.
